Question : Figure shows a plot of stopping potential (V₀) with frequency (ν) of incident radiation for the photosensitive materials M1 and M2. Explain
a) Why the slope of both the lines is same?
b) For which material emitted electrons have greater kinetic energy for the same frequency of incident radiation?

Solution :
a) The slope of the above graph is h/e which is a constant hence it is independent of material.
Solution :
a) The slope of the above graph is h/e which is a constant hence it is independent of material.
b) We know, Kmax = hν-hν₀
Since frequency of incident radiation (hν) is same for both of them so lower the threshold frequency (ν₀) higher will be the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted electrons.
From the graph it is clear that M1 has lowest threshold frequency (ν₀) so electron ejected by M1 will have greater kinetic energy.
